I left my finance job to become a painter (naturally 👀) and quickly hit a wall: finding an affordable studio in London was nearly impossible. The whole process felt like a secret club with special handshakes. No marketplace, no clear pricing, and endless waitlists for every decent space. After hustling for months through networks and desperate emails, I finally scored a tiny, overpriced studio in South London. The crazy thing is that while I was struggling to find workspace, I kept meeting artists whose studios sat empty for weeks or months while they traveled. It made no sense.

It really clicked when I was paying rent on an empty studio while spending a month in Lisbon for a residency. Meanwhile, artists I knew were painting in their bathrooms because they couldn't find a proper workspace. The solution seemed obvious: connect artists who need temporary studios with those who have empty ones. Yet somehow, this marketplace didn't exist. As someone who didn't go to art school, I'd already felt how exclusive the studio world could be. I wanted to break that open—make creative space available to anyone with the talent to use it, not just people with the right connections.
